Vintage Abla Set

Sale price₹ 190,000.00

The Abla Kurta features a yoke with dense mirror-work called ‘abla kaam’ and multi coloured embroidery from Kutch. It is paired with an organza odhana and a lehenga printed with yellow rogan dots. Zardosi embroidery, gota patti and beadwork were added to complete the entire ensemble, in shining contrast to a base of deep madder red.
Metallic embroidery like zardosi, marori and ari work was introduced to India by the Mughals and is now part of most ceremonial outfits, evoking grandeur and displaying fine craftsmanship on fabrics such as silk and velvet. But less common, and equally beautiful, is the potential that folk embroideries offer with their spontaneous use of colour and materials like mirrors, cowries, coins and pompoms. In the image, the outfit has been styled with a Rabari man’s belt that comes from the same region in Gujarat as the embroidery.
The Vintage Project creates modern heirlooms from old embroideries, resulting in one-of-a-kind outfits that stem from a history of exemplary craftsmanship.
